  2. Introduction: What is Heart Disease? Heart Disease is where there are heart problems that happen to the valves in the heart, or the heart may not pump well and cause heart failure. Some people are born with Heart Disease. Heart Disease kills more people in the US than any other disease. The most common heart disease is Coronary Artery Disease in the US.

  3. This is what happens in the Artery when someone gets Coronary Artery Disease, which is a type of Heart Disease.

  4. Who does Heart Disease affect? Heart Disease affects Black people the most for both genders. However, men are at more risk than women. Asians and people from the Pacific region are at the least risk of Heart Disease, but there is still a possibility.

  6. Causes/Risk Factors -Smoking -Secondhand smoke -Excessive Sodium -Coronary Artery Disease -High cholesterol -Not enough exercise

  7. Symptoms • Angina (Chest pains) It can be described as a discomfort, heaviness, pressure, aching, burning, fullness, squeezing, or painful feeling in your chest. It can be mistaken for indigestion or heartburn. Angina may also be felt in the shoulders, arms, neck, throat, jaw, or back. • Shortness of breath • Palpitations (irregular heart beats, or a "flip-flop" feeling in your chest) • A faster heartbeat • Weakness or dizziness • Nausea • Sweating

Treatments • Lifestyle changes • Medicines • Medical and surgical procedures • Cardiac rehabilitation (Medically supervised program that helps improve the health and well-being of people who have heart problems.Rehab programs include exercise training, education on heart healthy living, and counseling to reduce stress and help you return to an active life) • Quit smoking • Healthy diet + excercise

  9. Prevention • Don’t smoke, use tobacco • Limit alcohol use • Excercise • Eat a healthy diet (lots of fruits and vegetables) • Maintain a healthy weight • Get enough sleep • Keep blood pressure under control

  11. Q&A 1. Does that mean that I can’t eat high sodium foods to avoid getting heart disease? ~No, it just means you need to eat high sodium foods in moderation. 2. What part of the body other than the heart does it affect? ~It affects many other parts including veins, arteries, capillaries, chest, brain, abdomen, and blood vessels.
