  2. What is Heart Disease? • A general term for miocardial infarctions such as: • Disease of Blood Vessels • Heart Rhythm Problems • Heart Infections • Congenital Heart Defects

  3. The Effect on the Cardiovascular System • Blood can’t flow adequately • Oxygen can’t move • Cells in the Heart and Lungs can’t function • The Heart Wears itself our by a loss of pumping capacity (AHA) • Can Cause Tiredness and Fatigue

  4. The Effect on the Digestive System • Can create a feeling a being sick and/ or full • Receives less blood • Abdominal aorta branches off into three smaller aortas that supply most of the blood to the digestive tract • Intestinal Ishemia- caused by a lack of blood flow to the small intestine or colon

  5. The Effect on the Immune Systems • Damage done during a Heart Attack turns on Immune Cells in the spleen that accelerate Heart Failure (when tested on mice) • Study Found mice with heart failure had higher levels of activated, pro-inflammatory macrophanges, monocites, dendritic cells and T cells (Science Daily)

  6. The Effect on the Nervous System • May cause Atherosclerosis because the sympathetic system may be involved in the activation of overly active platelet growth which causes increased blood pressure(Remme)

  7. The Effect on the Respiratory System • If Coronary Heart Disease leads to heart failure, the lungs may become congested with fluid • Oxygen can not move throughout the body properly

  8. The Effect on the Urinary System • Can cause death if developed with late stage renal disease: Renal failure can lead to atherosclerosis • Hypertension can lead to kidney failure (Health 24)
