A Way Of Life • The Modern World began at the start of the 20th century and is still present to this day. • Early 1900’s economy was stable. • People worked for a living. • Ruled by a dictator ship. • Owned multiple territories. • World War 1 and 2 greatly effects on a international level. • Still on Social Darwinism, and was in a depression during the 1930’s known as The Great Slump.

  3. World War 1&2 • 1910: South Africa obtains independence from Britain. Union of South Africa formed segregation governing rule. • 1914: World War 1 starts after the assassination of Austrian Archduke Francis Ferdinand. • 1918: The war ends with economic devastation on all sides. • The war cost 750,000 lives and billions of dollars which plummeted Great Britain into a depression. • United State’s stock market crashes causing a world wide depression. • Britain is pulled into the World War 2 in 1939 after Hitler invades Poland. • Germany surrenders in 1945. USA drops the atomic bombs on Japan.

  4. Famous Literature & Art • Matisse & Les Fauves 2 artist in the early Modern World. • Karl Marx wrote “Das Kapital.” • Virginia Woolf developed a technique called “Stream of Consciousness.” • Upton Sinclair wrote “The Jungle.”
