History • The Aboriginals were the firs people in Australia • They were believed to arrive to the island by boat and settled down there in the ice age 50,000 years ago • The first British to arrive were all convicts • By the 1820s more settlers had come and made farms with the land • By 1851 the British had found gold and a gold rush began • The gold rush had brought money and expensive goods to it majors cities like Sydney. • By the 1880s they were very modern cities • In 1901 Australia and its six states became one nation

  3. Geography • Australia is located 32.3456 degrees south and 141.4346 degrees east • Australia is considered an island nation including Australia, Tasmania, Hinchinbrook island, and many more • Australia has over 8000 islands

  4. Did you know? • Australia has a population of 22 million • Australia capital is Canberra • National language is English • There are more kangaroos than people in Australia • Australia is the lowest continent in the world

  5. Sydney Opera House the opera house was open in 1973 and represents Australia It cost 120,000,000 to build.
