  2. Synonym Meaning: with the similar meaning Example: Car the synonym is vehicle

  3. Antonyms Antonym means opposite Example: Big antonym of Big is tiny or small.

  4. Conflict Conflict is the problem in The story Example: humpty dumpty Fell off and cracked open.

  5. Simile Simile is comparing to thing using like or as. Example: Her hair is shiny like a diamond.

  6. A Hook A hook means gets the readers Attention Example: The book dear Mr. Henshraw gets my attention.

  7. Inference • Definitions • Using a logic to figure out what is unspoken about evidence

  8. Verb- the action word in a sentence; the word that tells what something does or that something

  9. Adverb- the word that means tells when, where, or how

  10. Noun- is a person place or thing

  11. Pronoun- A word that takes place of a noun

  12. Opinion- information that someone thinks

  13. Fact- a true statement

  14. Adjective- A word that describes a noun

  15. Main idea- finding the most important part

  16. Paragraph- a group sentence that tells about one main idea

  17. Subject- a word or several words that tell when or what a sentence is about

  18. Paraphrase- to restate a writer’s ideas in your own words

  19. Summerized- to writen in your own words the most important ideas of a reading selection

  20. Theme- lesson or moral of the story

  21. Plot- the main events in a story

  22. Personal- refers to a noun that appear somewhere else the sentence paragraph

  23. Drawing conclusion- a desionor opinion you reach based on details from the test

  24. Alliteration- repetition of consonant sounds

  25. Personification- giving an object humanistic traits

  26. Author purpose pie Entertain- The author is trying to my you enjoy the story by keeping the reader attention Persuade- The author trying to get you to do something Inform- The author is giving you information

Elements of Exposit writing • Introduction- introduces the main idea and three reasons to be further explain Thesis statement- presents the central idea of an essay Body paragraphs- supports the thesis by giving specific reason, facts, and examples in individual paragraphs Conclusion- stresses the importance of the thesis statement and gives a sense of completeness and insight to the reader Transitions- help readers follow shifts in ideas, sentences, and paragraph
