Basic Feet Positions • 1st position • 2nd position • 3rd position • 4th position • 5th position • All of these positions should not be forced, you should be using your natural turnout from the hips to accomplish these five positions • 6th position parallel • Here is a link to a visual of each position:Ballet Positions
Cecchetti’s Arabesque Positions • 1st Position Arabesque • Performing leg ideally at 90 degrees or above for each position • It is okay if it is below we can work towards it getting higher.
2nd Position Arabesque • Same positioning as 1st except upper body is rotating away from the audience
3rd Arabesque • Body Positioning is same as 1st however the arms are in 3rd position.
4th Arabesque • Both the body and arms are different from the previous three.
5th Arabesque • Similar to 4th position arabesque with arms in 3rd position • Can be performed with supporting leg in plié or straight
Ballet Terms • Adagio: slow, sustained movement • Allegro: fast, lively movements • En Avant: front, forward • Battu: beaten, when a step requires the striking of the legs together • Bras: Arms • Changement: change of feet • Chassé: to chase • Sur le cou-de-pied: on the ‘neck’ of the foot • Croisé: crossed • En Dedans: inward or En Dehors: outward
