IB Student Performance Study: SAT and ACT Results

This survey evaluates IB student performance in SAT and ACT exams, university application trends, and acceptance rates. Results show IB candidates outperforming in both exams. The methodology involved surveying candidates via email. Mean scores for both SAT and ACT were notably higher for Diploma candidates compared to Certificate candidates. The study also compared 2002 and 2003 data, revealing consistent trends. Additionally, insights into Canadian student surveys and university applications are provided.

  1. 2003 IB North America Student Survey

Purpose of Study • Evaluate IB student performance on SAT and ACT • Determine most IB applied to universities and colleges and IB acceptance rates into these institutions Methodology • Surveys were sent via email to all IB Diploma Program coordinators in the United States. • Responses were received from 6,392 candidates from 131 schools in 29 states.

  3. SAT Results • Respondents’ mean score of 1274 was significantly higher than the average score of the total population. • Diploma candidates’ mean score was significantly higher than the mean score obtained by Certificate candidates.

  4. ACT Results • Respondents’ mean score of 27.1 was significantly higher than the average score of the total population. • Diploma candidates’ mean score was significantly higher than the mean score obtained by Certificate candidates.
