Warm up • How do crystals form?
Mineral formation Cooling magma & magmatic solutions As it cools, minerals solidify (crystallize) at specific temperatures Geodes – solutions run through crevices in rk, begin to cool, crystallize from outside towards inside.
Precipitation & Evaporation • Evaporation – water turns to gas leaves behind minerals • Dead Sea • Salt Lake Sea • Precipitation – solutions/waters combine or cool – new minerals fall out
