Maths, Play Project Overview Learning Areas Levels Primary 1-3 Objectives The children will learn maths skills through play activities. The children will work co-operatively in teams to complete maths/play activities. The children will link their maths skills to real-life contexts. Description Every week, the children in my class are given a ‘Weekly Maths Challenge’. This challenge will take place in one of the play areas in the classroom. This challenge will be linked to an aspect of the Level A/B maths curriculum. Examples are using co-ordinates in the sand tray or following directions using the car mats. The children are asked to complete the challenge in groups and evaluate how well they have done. The practical maths activities are relevant and contextualised and involve less writing and recording for the children.
