  1. Warm up • How many atoms are in this picture of a compound?

  2. Warm up answers • 5 blue, plus 5 green, plus 6 gold = 16 total

  3. Making sure the same number of atoms are on both sides of the equation • Get 5 different colors and make 10 squares about 1” X 1” for each color • Get a piece of computer paper to make an envelope to keep your pieces in. • Keep these for the rest of the semester!

  4. How many atoms? • C + O2 = CO2 • 1 + 2 = 3 • 3 = 3

  5. How many atoms? • H + H + H + H + O + O = HHO + HHO • 6 = 6

  6. steps • 1. how many colors? • 2. how many of each color? • 3. are the two sides equal?

  7. How many atoms? • 4 H + O2 = 2 H2O

  8. How many atoms? • Fe (NO3)2 + Cu = Cu(NO3)2 + Fe

  9. Todays activities • Read C.1 to C.4 on p. 153 • Complete the C.1-C.4 reading guide

  10. Cool down • Is this a balanced chemical equation? Explain why or why not • 2 H20 = 2 H+ + 2 OH-
