Warm Up • Free-write: Write down 5 things that come to mind when you hear the word “Function”?
Goal I will review Functions, focusing on domain, range, graphing, and piecewise. I will also plan and teach a mini-lesson.
You get to teach today! • But first, let’s do something USEFUL and FUN! • Directions: Clear your desk, and put a single item on it. Anything you want. Just one thing. Not two. One. Ok, GO!
Now… • You have 2 minutes to prepare a 1 minute presentation about your item. You will be presenting to the class. GO!
Independent reading • Take 3 minutes to silently scan pages 12-18. • Pay attention to major topics and definitions
Did you know teaching a topic is the best way to understand it? • Directions: • Plan a 3minute lesson on the topic assigned. • You should use your text book notes, homework problems, the internet (if necessary). • Your lesson must include: • Notes in Cornell style for students to copy. • At least 2 examples. Examples should NOT be identical to homework problems. Make sure your lesson provides enough information for students to be able to complete the homework assignment.
Look at the homework problems for you section: What do students need to know in order to do those problems? Read the chapter and include information that us about your section in particular. Topics • Function: 1, 3, 36, 39 • Domain: 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 • Range: 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 • Even/Odd functions: 21, 24, 27, 30 • Graphing piecewise: 31*, 33, 34* • Writing formulas for piecewise: 41*, 42, 45 • Composite Functions: 51 (a-f)
Wednesday Homework • Explain to me your math-ography in three paragraphs. The first should talk about how and what your math experiences were in the past. The second paragraph should explain why you are taking this class and what you hope to get out of it. The third paragraph should explain what you want to do in your future and how math will be involved. 2. You need to read and sign the AP Contract.
Homework Change: Section 1.2 • Add 51, 57, 62
