Battle of Gettysburg • Dates- July 1st 1863- July 3rd 1863 • Location- Gettysburg Pennsylvania • Union leader was Major General George Meade • Confederate leader was general Robert E Lee • Casualties: • Union- 23,055 • Confederates- 23,231 • The significance of this battle was that it was the turning point for the Union it was also the bloodiest battle

  10. The 2nd Battle of Fort Fisher • Dates- July 13th 1865 – July 15th 1865 • Location- fort fisher north Carolina • Union leaders were Major General Alfred Terry, rear Admiral David D. Porter • Confederate leaders were Major General W.H.C Whiting , Robert F. Hoke • Casualties- • Union- 1,338’ • Confederate- 583 • The significance of this battle is the union closed down the last remaining confederate port

The Battle of Appomattox Courthouse • Dates: April 9th 1865 • Location: Appomattox Virginia • Union leader was general Ulysses S Grant • Confederate leader was General Robert E Lee • Casualties: • Union- 164 • Confederate- 500 and 27,800 surrendered • The significances of this battle was it was the end of the civil war

  15. The affects of the civil war on the future The affect was that slaves were freed and slavery was no longer legal. The other affect on the future was that the northern and southern states are now united once again.
