  1. The Greatest Gifts • Fact: The greatest gifts are not those wrapped in neat, brightly colored paper. Many such gifts that people receive will be the wrong color, the wrong size, returned, exchanged, etc. In this study we want to focus on gifts that thoughtful and intelligent people will cherish and which they could not even think of returning or exchanging!

  2. God, the Giver of Every Good and Perfect Gift! • James 1:17: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” • God gave us His Son! John 3:16; Isa. 9:6. • He did not send an angel, but One “so much better than the angels,” Hebrews 1:4. • Sadly, many refused to receive His son, John 1:11!

  3. Jesus Gave Himself as an Offering for sin, John 10:11! • We are not redeemed “with corruptible things…,” I Peter 1:18. • Jesus is that “unspeakable gift,” 2 Cor. 9:15. • In a very real sense, Jesus is “the gift that keeps on giving.” 2 Timothy 2:2. • Sadly, Jesus is often an unclaimed gift!

  4. Jesus Gave us the Gospel! Rom. 1:16; I Cor. 15:1-4 • 2 Thess. 1:7-9: “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power.” • Those who obey receive forgiveness! Acts 2

  5. God Gives us “Eternal Life,” Romans 6:23! • Tit. 1:2, “In hope of eternal life.” • Heb. 6:19-20, “an anchor of the soul.” • Eph. 2:8, It is an undeserved gift. • But not unconditional! Matt. 7:21. Heb. 5:9 • I John 5:11-12, This life is “in” the Son. • Note: If life is “in” the Son, one must enter the Son to receive it! Galatians 3:27.

  6. God Gives Us“All Spiritual Blessings!” • Eph. 1:3: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” • These blessings are enjoyed “in Christ.” • One must enter Christ to receive those blessings! Galatians 3:27.

  7. Parents Should Give “Good Gifts” to their Children! • Eph. 6:4; Deut. 6:6-7, “the gift” of Spiritual training. • Ezek. 16:44, “the gift” of a proper example to follow. • Eph. 5:25; Titus 2:4, “the gift” of abundant love. • I Tim. 5:8; it includes the necessities of life. • Matt. 6:33; it includes having our own priorities in order!

  8. “Gifts” Children CanGive their Parents: • Obedience:“Children, obey your parents in the Lord; for this is right,” Ephesians 6:1. • Honor & Respect: “Honor thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise,” Eph. 6:2 • Caring for them if and when they can not care for themselves, I Tim. 5:4,16.

  9. “Gifts” Christians Should Give Each Other • John 13:34-35, The “gift” of love. • Matt. 6:12,14-15, The “gift” of forgiveness. • Eph. 4:1,2, The “gift” of being longsuffering. Cf. 2 Peter 3:9,15 • Heb. 10:24,25, The “gift” of encouragement.

  10. “Gifts” We Can give to those with whom we come in contact: • Matt. 5:16; Phil. 2:15: The “gift” of a good example. This means: • Our speech must be above reproach, Eph. 4:29. • We must obey “the golden rule,” Mt.7:12. • Our conduct must be above reproach, Titus 2:12. • Both saints and sinners can depend on us! • To be present in worship; to do our part!

  11. “Gifts” We Can Give, continued: • The gift of being a good neighbor, Matthew 22:39; Luke 10:29-37. • The gift of the gospel! “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also,”2 Timothy 2:2. • Note: This is the gift that keeps on giving!

  12. A Call to Remembrance: • As we gather with family, friends, and loved ones, let us be thankful… • If We exchange gifts, let us: • Keep in mind “the greatest gifts.” • Not be materialistic in our outlook. Phil. 3:18-19. • As we anticipate a new year, let us remember the importance of: • Taking inventory of ourselves, 2 Cor. 13:5. • Pressing forward in a determined way to serve the Lord, Phil. 3:14-15.

  13. Conclusion: • Are we, on a daily basis, giving “the greatest gifts” to others? • Are there those in this assembly who have neglected to take advantage of the gift of eternal life? • Jesus invites you to “come” to Him, Matthew 11:28-30!
