  3. State Authorization • News: Department of Ed negotiated rulemaking to revive federal state authorization begins again next year. General belief is DOE intends to reinstate federal regulations that require institutions to be authorized in each state in which the institution has a presence. http://wcetblog.wordpress.com/ • Remember: All colleges are required to provide information to ALL students on the complaint process in their home state.   4. RFP and System Contract Rules • Current system contracts paid for with Strategic Technology Funds: • Lecture capture (Tegrity—RFP in play) • Web conferencing (Collaborate) • Quality Matters • Etutoring (Western eTutoring Consortium) • 24/7 Research librarian

  5. New contracts • Colleges would pay for use • Need 20 colleges to get a good price and to justify the work of a system RFP • Where are we? • Turnitin—3 yes and 4 maybes • SmarterMeasure—??

  9. Canvas Update

  10. Project I-DEA • 3 year grant from Gates to use flipped model for lower level ES. Students work 50% online; colleges supply devices and connectivity • 10 pilot colleges this year • Big Bend, IEL, Lake Washington, North Seattle, Pierce St. Steilacoom, Renton Technical, Seattle Central, Shoreline, Tacoma , Walla Walla • Add 10 colleges next year, add 14 the final year • Students started in September—good feedback so far

Project I-DEA Q2 • Q2 Release Info • Cartridge will be ready for release by or shortly after December 13th • eLearning offices will be able to access the cartridge in the Shared eLearning Repository • I-DEA instructors will be able to access the cartridge in the Project I-DEA Communications site • eLearning Assistance Needed • All Q2 instructors will need a Canvas classroom for W ‘14 instruction • Instructors may need help with downloading & importing the cartridge, adjusting due dates and adding the Google & Collaborations activities  • There will be a link to a Google doc in the Syllabus section of Q2 that tells instructors what they need to do before the quarter begins • Expect questions and requests for assistance to start coming after 12/16 or at the very last minute right before winter quarter begins

Project I-DEA Q2 • Upcoming Events • Q3 development is in progress • Applications for the second wave of pilot colleges will be submitted & reviewed in the spring • Livemocha was purchased by Rosetta Stone, current LM product is being retired, new RS product is not ready for use yet, we’re investigating replacement options
