Steering Committee Charter • Purpose: Guide the evolution of FAMLEARNS as an institutional resource. • Procedure: Annual progress report of project status, accomplishments, assessment, and proposed directions for the next year. • Advocacy: Recommend migration of FAMLEARNS towards institution-wide adoption and integration with institutional educational technology. FAMLEARNS Steering Committee

  6. Project Overview – Driving Problems • High failure rates in formative STEM courses • Biology • CIS • Math • Engineering • Low technology adoption rates by faculty • Potential to impact 5000 students! FAMLEARNS Steering Committee

Project Overview - Proposed Solution • Captured Learning Resources (CLRs) • Visuals (e.g., PowerPoint) integrated with audio • CLRs accessible via Blackboard, iTunes U • On-the-fly authoring & faculty innovation • No special studio set-up • Whole lectures, special topics, tutoring • Infrastructure for producing/publishing CLRs • Automated capture, publishing (indexing) • Help desk and support services for faculty FAMLEARNS Steering Committee

FAMLEARNS Funding Summary • US Dept of Education Minority Science & Engineering Improvement Program (Project P120A070081) • $460K over 3 years: 10/1/2007 – 9/30/2010 • 2-3 course buyouts per year • 1-2-2 graduate students funded; • 3-2-3 undergraduate students funded FAMLEARNS Steering Committee
