  2. The trail of tears was the removal of the Cherokee, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw and Creek tribes. The choctaw tribe was removed in 1831. The seminole tribe was removed in 1832. The creek tribe was removed in 1834. The chickasaw was removed in 1837. The cherokee tribe was removed in 1838. Almost ¼ of these indians died from diesese, starvation, and harsh weather. First Fact

  3. The us government ordered These five tribes to travel from their homelands to the southeastern states in the newly established Indian territory just west of the Mississippi river. The trail was approximately 1000 miles long. It lasted between 1838 and 1839. Second fact

  4. This all started when the US government passed a law in 1830 called the Indian Removal Act. This allowed the US government the right to force Indian tribes to vacate their land and move to reservation lands, geographical areas the government had put aside for their use. Most Indian tribes did not want to leave their land. It was their spiritual and physical home. But the government sent in the army to force tribes to move. Third fact

  5. Georgia took the Indians farms, businesses, and land when they left. Andrew Jackson was president at the time and he was the one who allowed this law to be passed. Fourth fact

  6. Along with the indians on the trail were 600 wagons and carts. Also 1,000 horses and just over 100 oxen. They had very torn clothing some did not even have shoes and they only had light blankets. Fifth fact
