  4. The Middle Passage – 9/10 • Read the section titled, “The Middle Passage” on pg. 76. • What was the middle passage? • What was life like for slaves who traveled along the middle passage? • What happened to many slaves before they reached their destination?

Slave Ships to the Americas • Why did Europeans build forts or “factories” along Africa’s west coast? • What were the ways in which a slave might die during the journey to the Americas? • What rumor was spread by Africans about the fate of their captured friends? • What would cause the women to shriek and the men to moan along the journey? • Pretend that you are a slave who just survived the journey to the Americas. Write a letter to your family back in Africa explaining the conditions of your journey.

The answer is only about my thoughts or experiences and a theme or idea from the book
