  2. Bartın is near the sea, and Bartın takes its name from the river which flows through the city, SoBartın is called ‘’the city of water’’

  3. For being a historical city, water has always been very important for Bartın. Years ago, the water used to be brought to the city by hand made stone channel from its source . And people used to get their water from many local fountains in the city, carry it to their houses and use. Some of These historical fountains can be seen in the city, still running

  4. ın our day, there are two kinds of spring water in our city.1) kavşak water (just for drinking)2) tap water in our houses(generally for using at home)

  5. Kavşak water is delivered to the houses in carboys But unfortunately there are few people who get it as the same way years ago from the local historical fountains by the streets.

  6. According to the autorities tap water can also be drunk, because it is also processed in the water treatment plant. But it is hard, So people in Bartın use tap water for bathing, laundry, kitchen ant toilet use in their houses, they prefer drinking kavşak water which is softer

  7. Kavşak water is spring water and starts from the mountains as a tiny stream

  8. İt becomes bigger

  9. And bigger …and of course develops different qualities along the way.

  10. Water is pumped to water treatment plant to be processed.

  11. In Bartın there are four small water treatment plants.

  12. Substances such as alum are added for sedimentation, these stick to the dirt particles and sink to the bottom as sediment leaving the water in a purer state.

  13. The water then passes through filters.

  14. chlorine is added to the water to kill disease-causing organisms

  15. in these treatment plants water samples are analyzed with periodical intervals.

  16. Kavşak water is ready to be bottled or sent to the local fauntains.
