  11. Common Language Introduction to Enhancing Professional Practice: A Framework for Teaching 2nd Edition Complex

  12. A Continuous Improvement Model

  13. Why have a framework? • To describe the complexity of teaching • To build a common language • To self-assess and reflect

  14. Formative Uses of The Framework • Personal formative evaluation of practice is an affirmation for experienced teachers. • In Delaware, the framework is used in the mentoring/induction program in a formative manner. • Collegially, formative evaluation occurs when teachers observe each other or discuss practices together with the intent of improving personal practice.

  15. Summative Uses of The Framework • The framework can be used for summative evaluation purposes and will be in Delaware. • The advantage for its use as a summative tool is that it provides a common language for practice.

  16. The Framework Structure includes: • 4 Domains - categories • 22 Components - statements • 69 Elements – observed and assessable

  17. What do the Domains Capture? Planning and preparation “in the head of the teacher” Instruction in the classroom Learning outside of the classroom

  18. Scavenger Hunt Activity To become familiar with the Danielson text (2nd edition), locate each of the following in Domain 1 (indicate the page numbers) -Description of the Domain -Rationale and Explanation for Component 1a -Demonstration for Component 1a -Levels of Performance for Component 1a

  20. Domains and Components • “The four domains of the framework for teaching, and the components they contain, are described separately from one another. This is not to suggest, however, that teachers do them independently or in isolation. Teaching is a holistic endeavor; all the different aspects of teaching are entangled in multiple ways.” (Danielson, 2007)

  21. Domain Description Activity • Use the Domain Activity sheet with a partner. • Match each of the statements with the domain and component that are described in the statement provided. • 10 minutes - http://www.online-stopwatch.com/
