  3. End of the War • Russian Revolution • 3/1917, poverty= ppl protested= overthrew the Czar • Bolsheviks seized power • 3/1918, Lenin opposed the war & withdrew Russia

  4. Germany’s Last Attempt • 3/21/1918, 1 million offensive • Pushed Allies back to Marne River, 50 miles from Paris • U.S. troops under Marshal Ferdinand Foch • 6/3-4/18, attack led by U.S. troops • Paris was saved

  5. Germany’s Last Try • July, Germans threw everything into a last assault • Allies counter-attacked • Tide turned in the favor for the Allies

  6. Allied Victory • 9/1918, offensive along the W. front, 3 months • Battle of the Argonne Forest • Capture of the RR/station hub at Sedan • 369th Infantry, awarded w/ “Cross of War”

  7. Allied Victory • Central Powers’ forces fell apart and morale dropped • Fall of 1918, mutinies broke out in the army and navy • Citizens rioted and demanded food

  8. Allied Victory • German Chancellor asked Wilson for a cease-fire • Allies demanded Germans leave and surrender military equipment • War ended= Peace conference 1/1919
