  3. The Great Leap Forward • The Great Leap Forward planned to develop agriculture and industry. Mao believed that both had to grow to allow the other to grow.   5. Tiananmen Square • The Tiananmen Square describe as the greatest challenge to communist state in China since the 1949 revolution. Tiananmen Square has been the site of demonstrations peaceful and violent for at least 150 years. Protests in Tiananmen in the early 1900s led to the fall of the last Imperial Dynasty.
