Two wheeler options in India • The Indian bike scene has been waiting for something like this for ages. • We have been longing for a combination of power, styling and lastly – convenience. • A quick look at the two wheeleroptions in India make you realise just how crowded the space is and just how many vehicles are out there at different price points.

How to choose a bike • Just like every other avid racer, I too wanted a bike that was high on power and yet was kind to my wallet too. • The bikes that are in the segment of powerful bikes are usually on the extreme side of a budget and can be out of the window when it comes to three factors – first time cost, mileage and servicing costs. • It was no different for me to look at it the exact same way, most of the bikes I found were high on the initial cost, gave me a reduced mileage and average servicing costs were very high too. • It made me to question the overall affordability in today’s market.

Choose a perfect bike • With two wheeler prices zooming ahead, owning an imported ride is basically out of the question. • There are so many of them that are present in the market that really do not fit a common man’s budget and makes out to be too much to ask for. • My conquest for a good bike took me to the Bajaj showroom and got me thinking more than anything else. • I was looking for a bike that would give me a perfect balance of all the three things I wanted the most – price, mileage and servicing.

Bajaj Dominar Bike • The biggest surprise is that most of the vehicles in the Bajaj stable are built around this theory too. • The initial cost is not the highest, you have healthy fuel economy and lastly the maintenance of the bike is rather brilliant. • I chose to go ahead with the Dominar 400 first simply because of the power I was looking at. • The engine is powerful enough for a long pleasant ride and gives you a decent fuel economy as well. • The two wheeler price is much lesser at Rs. 1.5L for the ABS model, and completely fits into my budget. • The road presence is a complete winner with stunning looks and great pickup.

Looking for that perfect bike • When it comes to mileage, the engine is tuned to outperform and does the job quite well. • There are not enough bikes on the road that can give you such a strong balance this easily. • From the maintenance stand point, there are very few manufacturers that I would trust with at first go and it is no different with this too.

Looking for that perfect bike • You can be sure of a reliable service no matter where you go in this country. • I plan to go on a month long ride across the length of the country and having a bike that can be serviced just about anywhere would be a huge advantage. • Looking for that perfect bike can be quite a struggle, but at the end of the day – all that matters is that you have the best of three – power, servicing and mileage!
