Battle of Gettysburg • On July 1 the Union General George Meade decided to cut off General Robert E. Lee’s troops from invading the North • The two armies met in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and started battling • The battle lasted three days and there was 23,055 for the union and 23,231 for the Confederates • This was considered the turning point of the civil war, It also had the most casualties out of all the civil war battles. http://heartlandtrails.com/BLOG_images/gettysburg.jpg
2nd battle of Fort Fisher • On January 13th the Union Invaded the Confederates last open port of Fort Fisher • They were led by Major General Alfred Terry who commanded the ground troops and Rear Admiral David D. Battle of Appomattox Courthouse • On January 9, 1865 General Robert E. It lasted almost 4 years. • It ended at Appomattox courthouse after the battle there when General Robert E. Lee agreed to surrender to General Grant • However the Civil War ended on April 9th, 1685 it took a while for the word to spread so there was still casualties • June 23, 1865 was the final surrender date
