  8. Fort Sumter • (April 12, 1861) was the time brigadier General Beauregard sent the attack on fort Sumter.It lasted two days with out casualties. The significance of fort Sumter was that it was the beginning of the civil war.

  9. Battle of bull run This battle started on July 21st 1861. Where the union Army was under command by brigadier general Irvin McDowell. Where at the same time General Bauagard was commanding the confederate army. Both sides realized the impacts of the war. The casualties of the war were heavy. And it was a long lasting war.

  11. 2nd battle of Fort Fisher • The war started January 13-15 1865. Blockade Runners provided supplies from the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Great Britain by trading cotton and tobacco. Fort was made of the Earth. • The Battle • At 2:30 pm the naval assault ceased, giving way to the land attack. • Fierce hand-to-hand combat. • General Whiting was killed. • By 10:00 pm the surrender order was given. Casualties Union-1,338 Confederate-583 • Union Generals • Major General Alfred Terry commanded 9,000 troops • Rear Admiral David D. Porter commanded 60 ships. • Confederate Generals • Major General W.H.C. Whiting commanded 1,900 troops at the fort. • Robert F. Hoke commanded 6,400 troops just north of the fort.

Appomattox Courthouse • After the siege in Petersburg General Lee abandoned the Confederate capital. • He went south when was cut off by General Grant’s troops. • April 7thGrant sent Lee a letter requesting a forfeit. • April 8thUnion Cavalry arrived first and burned the supplies. • April 9thinthe morning Lee’s troops attacked union troops with success. • April 9that 11:50 am Lee sent a message to Grant agreeing to give up and surrender. • Casualties Union: 164 Confederate: 500 and 27,800 Ended up surrendering.

  15. Ending the civil war The civil war ended after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox court house on April 9, 1865.
