Exploring Earth's Diverse Biomes: From Tropical Rainforests to Tundra
Discover the fascinating world of biomes, each with its unique climate, wildlife, and vegetation. Tropical rainforests boast the highest biodiversity, thriving in warm, wet conditions. Coniferous forests feature evergreens and animals that hibernate, while deciduous forests showcase vibrant autumn colors. Grasslands, known as prairies or savannas, support diverse herbivores. Deserts challenge life with extreme temperatures and scarce rainfall, while tundra's permafrost creates a unique ecosystem. Water biomes, from intertidal zones to oceanic depths, host a variety of life forms, illustrating the beauty of our planet's ecosystems.

Tropical Rain Forest • Temperature: 68oF - 93oF • Rainfall: Up to 158 inches per year! • Animals: Insects, Birds, Monkeys, Wild Cats • Plants: Ferns, Canopy Trees, Vines • The rain forest has the greatest diversity of life!
Coniferous Forest • Temperature: 14oF - 52oF • Rainfall: Up to 30 inches per year • Animals: Hibernate and Migrate (Deer, Moose, Squirrels, Lynx) • Plants: Evergreens (needle-like) • Long cold winters
Deciduous Forest • Temperature: 43oF - 82oF • Rainfall: Up to 50 inches per year • Animals: Birds, Rabbits, Foxes • Plants: Trees that loose leaves, moss, grasses • We live here! Fall colors!
Grassland • Temperature: 32oF - 86oF • Rainfall: Up to 30 inches per year • Animals: Prairie dogs, mice, bison, elephants, zebras, gazelles. • Plants: Grasses and seed-bearing plants • Can be called the steppe, savanna, prairie or pampas depending on where you live! • Very good soil!
Desert • Temperature: 45oF - 100oF • Rainfall: Less than 10 inches per year • Animals: Kangaroo rats, jack rabbits, lizards • Plants: Plants with roots close to the surface of the ground. • In animals and plants, water storage is the goal!
Tundra • Temperature: -14oF - 53oF • Rainfall: Less than 20 inches per year • Animals: Caribou, oxen, wolves, lemming. • Plants: Lichen, shrubs • Has permafrost, soggy soil, lakes and ponds.
Intertidal • Where the Ocean meets the land • Tide comes in and out
Neritic • Continental Shelf (fairly shallow) • A lot of sunlight • Warm, clear water
Oceanic • Open/Deep Water • No Sunlight more than 200 m
Benthic • Sea Floor • Dark, Cold • Organisms use chemosynthesis
Marsh Plants, no trees
Swamp Plants AND trees
Estruary • Where fresh water meets salt water
Moving Water • Ponds • Lakes • Rivers
