INCOMING SOPHOMORE Honors ONE FICTION Responses Due July 11 by midnight ONE NON FICTION Responses Due August 1 by midnight • Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier • OR • Stolen Voices • The Lord of the Flies It does not matter in what order you read these books, but the test on Lord of the Flies is more detailed. You MAY want to read it last.

REPONSE assignment • TYPED LITERARY ANALYSIS FOR ALL SELECTIONS • Read questions before you read your books • While you read your selections, you may want to make notes about possible responses that occur to you as you read • Please type a separate response for each book you read, as the responses are due on different due dates • Respond to each of the questions below in one or two complete paragraphs of at least 8-10 sentences each. Use Point, example, analysis in each response. • Use page numbers in parenthesis after each quote you use. • TURNITIN.COM • Each response needs to be submitted to turnitin.com • E-mailed to your honors/AO teacher by the due date only if turnitin.com does not accept your submission. • Hard copy to teacher by day two

Summer reading follow up • Deliver hard copy of responses by day two • Late work not accepted • Written exams, timed writing • Discussions • Projects • *summer reading follow-up activities take up the first month of school, so if you do not read, you will not be able to participate in the curriculum

Grading • HONORS: • The summer reading program and accompanying assignments will be part of your grade (10%) for the first semester. • ADVANCED PLACEMENT: • The summer reading program and accompanying assignments will be part of your grade (20%) for the first semester. • HONORS AND AP • Students who miss the first deadline will be removed from the program. • All teachers will use the same grading rubric, available on line.
