  2. Verbals • Verbals are words that seem to carry the idea of idea of action or being, but do not function as a true verb. Contains participles ( which acts as an adjective), gerunds (which act as a noun), and the infinitive (which acts as a noun).

  3. Participle An adjective or complement to certain auxiliaries that is regularly derived from the verb in many languagesandreferstoparticipation in the action or state of the verb; a verbal form used as an adjective.

  4. Gerund • A gerund is a noun formed from a verb by adding a suffix, “ing”. Although a gerund is a noun, it can still take an object. This is known as gerund complement.

  5. Infinitive • An infinitive is a verbal consisting of the word to plus a verb and functioning as a noun, adjective, or adverb. The term verbal indicates that an infinitive, like the other two kinds of verbals, is based on a verb and therefore expresses action or a state of being. However, the infinitive may function as a subject, direct object, subject complement, adjective, or adverb in a sentence.
